Real-life Application. Prepare a written solution to the following challenge. Your report should consist of real life solutions from various computer manufacturers—(ie quotes with technical specifications)—in addition there should be some discussion towards the rationale for your selected candidate solutions (also note in some cases a couple of sentences would suffice). 

 

The Challenge--

Your friend has just purchased a copyshop franchise and would like to hire you to help build the infrastructure. You are told that the desired outcome solution will allow for 10 customers to use computers for various applications--for example there is a known need for MS Word, Internet. There would also be some needs for a server for file and print sharing The print sharing will be done by having each client access the printers directly via a network connection.

 

Another task to this assignment is to spec out one server solution. This will encompass an entire investigation into different hardware and software (operating systems) possibilities. You will also want to consider RAID, backup utilities, and appropriate licensing.  There is a cost issue that should be undertaken in the solution(s) that you propose so you will want to be mindful of that aspect (that is don’t look at servers over the $7000 price range). Your final report should be comprehensive Total Cost of Ownership for the entire network (ie media, wiring centers, application software, software licenses, installation costs and timeframes). Feel free to make any assumption to items not made clear in the initial scenario request--just make certain your assumptions are clearly stated.
